Belk Chapel at Queens College in Charlotte provided the setting for one of my recent bridal sessions.  Laura, the bride-to-be, would be having her reception on the campus of Queens College, so it was a great place to have her bridal session there on the grounds and in the chapel.  Laura has a great personality and it shows through in many of the images that are posted below.  We were able to shoot some inside and out, as well as some with a video light, flash, and natural lighting.  I really liked having the opportunity to shot a more in-depth bridal session inside Belk Chapel since it is a very traditional space with large windows, columns, etc.  Here are some from the session, with Laura & Matt’s wedding pictures to follow soon!

I thought I would follow up my last entry from The Point (which was a wedding) with another session from that same location.  Except this time I though I would showcase something entirely different – a maternity session.  Maternity sessions have grown in popularity in recent years and I always enjoy being able to document the moment every chance I get.  It’s just such a unique and special event to capture on camera.

Amy & Clay wanted a natural setting for their session.  They are expecting their first baby and were awesome to work with during the shoot!  I thought The Point would work well for their session since it provided a good deal of charm and since I know the area so well.  It provides a nice location to do a combination of individual shot of the mother-to-be and the parent-to-be together in a variety of settings.  My favorites are below, but my very favorite is the sillouette  on the lake!   Congrats to Amy & Clay!

I have shot six weddings at The Point this year so far.  Unfortunately, I have only posted one wedding (you can see it by looking in the categories section under “weddings”, or “slideshow”) from there so far.  Keeping up a blog is tough work!  Anyway, I wanted to follow up with the wedding of Katie and Sean.  I posted Katie and Sean’s engagement images here on the blog (check them out under the “engagement” category) back in the spring.  They had their wedding and reception at The Point and it was a blast!  As I’ve said before, The Point is one of my favorite places to shoot a wedding/reception.  It can accommodate a large wedding party, has a fantastic view of the lake, and great photographic opportunities of course 🙂  The interior of the Lake Club is a personal favorite for it’s expansiveness, beamed ceilings, and the fact that it can open up to the outside (they have these retractable glass doors!)

Anyway, Katie & Sean were natural in front of the camera and here are some of my favorites and some of what The Point has to offer during the peak of the summer.  A special thanks to The Michael Catlow Group for whom provided DJ and planning services for this wedding as well.

Urban!  That is the way to go for an engagement session.  Well, that’s just an opinion, but I like going to center city as you might see by glancing over my blog.  Don’t get me wrong.  I like natural settings like pastures, meadows, parks, and trees like the next person.  But I like urban setting for the color and grit, for the geometry of the buildings and the lines that I find almost anywhere.  I can walk down any street, at any time of day and find something interesting to work with.  There is always something cool to shoot.

My shoot with Patrick and Lisa exemplifies this completely.  I randomly went down streets in Charlotte with no set pattern and no idea what I was going to shoot, or what I would find.  Some of the places were familiar, most were not.  That’s why I like the city.  Everytime I go to the city I find something new.  Patrick and Lisa were awesome in following along and we came away with some great shots.
