Today I am featuring not just any newborn session, but a family newborn session. Last year I had the distinct pleasure of photographing my cousin Lonnie’s wedding. You can see Lonnie & Andria’s wedding here. This year I had the pleasure of photographing Lonnie and Andria’s daughter Addison! What is particularly interesting is the date of these two photography events. Lonnie and Andria were married on 9.12.15 and I just happened to be back at their home on 9.12.16, exactly one-year after their wedding, to photograph their new baby girl! I didn’t even realize this until Andria pointed it out when I got to their home. How cool is that, so many amazing things happening in one year! Addison is a little cutie and I loved having the chance to photograph my newest cousin. She even smiled for a few of the pictures, something that rarely happens at such a young age. Congrats Lonnie and Andria on the birth of Addison!

I’m super excited about today’s featured engagement session! Just a couple of weeks back I met with Sara and Kyle at Bodie Island Lighthouse to shoot their engagement session. I don’t live close to the Outer Banks, but I jumped at the opportunity to shoot there. What’s not to love about lighthouses, beaches, sand dunes, and piers? A “beachy” theme plus a GREAT couple equals an awesome session! I had met Sara and Kyle earlier in the year at a wedding I shot and I knew they would be great to photograph. Kyle had proposed to Sara with the help of his dogs! He had made two plaques that read “will you marry our dad” for each of his dogs to carry when he proposed. What a great idea! Sara and Kyle brought their dogs and I loved getting a family shot of all of them! We began at Bodie Island Lighthouse and it was really stunning there. I think Bodie is the most photogenic of all the lighthouses on the OBX. It is surrounded by marsh and has this wonderful wooden walkway that is enveloped by the marsh. Sara and Kyle looked so awesome with the lighthouse in the background. We moved from the lighthouse to some really beautiful shots by the ocean with sand dunes in the background. Here you can really see the intimacy and love between these two and these shots were among my favorite of the day. I think they are really beautiful shots that are very classic and remind me so much of what summer is all about. We finished up the session at sunset under a pier in Nags Head. The lines of the pier and the golden glow of the sun on the pylons make these images really pop! I think these locations really fit Sara and Kyle personalities and I couldn’t be more happy with the way the session turned out. Congrats to Sara and Kyle, you guys are the best!

So the summer wedding season is in full swing, but along with it comes more engagements sessions. I recently met with Anna and Fred for a session in Midtown Park and NoDa. It was a blast getting to know these two and shooting in both new and familiar places. Since Midtown Park opened a couple of years back, I have wanted to shoot there. For one reason or another it had not happened until this session. NoDa on the other hand is a place I have shot at many times over the past 10+ years, but it had been a while since I had shot there. Midtown Park was awesome and I love how Anna and Fred fit within the landscape. I thought their clothing choice here was perfect, both of them looked really good under the structure that stands at the front of the park. NoDa always has the best walls – colorful and bold, always eye-catching. In NoDa Anna and Fred wore more casual attire, really fitting for the shots on the railroad tracks in particular. Those shots are perfectly summer in so many ways! Anna and Fred were awesome to work with, laid-back with a good sense of humor and all-around fun personalities. I look forward to their October wedding! Here is a selection from their engagement session:

Back last summer I shot an incredible wedding at Saratoga Springs for Caitlin and Jack. I knew it was going to be a good one, so much so that I even decided to use the wedding to shoot my promotional wedding video. You can see some of the highlights of Caitlin and Jack’s wedding here. You can see the video from the wedding that I had shot here! From time to time I submit weddings to various publications and Caitlin and Jack’s wedding was featured on Elegant Weddings! I am excited to have this wedding published on their website.
